Alexander ‘Sandy’ Urquhart Biography
As veteran of more than 30 years working within Caribbean landscape, horticultural and agricultural management, Beacon Farms’ Chief Operating Officer Sandy Urquhart brings a broad spectrum of experience to the organization. He has extensive knowledge of designing, creating, developing and maintaining mixed-use commercial landscapes and agricultural operations, in addition to the guiding principles, practices and procedures related to regional planning, zoning and processes in the Cayman Islands.
Before joining Beacon Farms Urquhart worked as a mixed-use project consultant through his firm Urquhart Design Ltd. He previously held the positions of Director, Senior Vice President of Design, Vice President of Operations & Maintenance, and Nursery Manager, over a fifteen-year period at Dart Realty, Grand Cayman. In these roles Sandy was responsible for developing the largest tropical plant nursery in the Caribbean, before supervising the international design team for phase one of Camana Bay, a 500-acre mixed use development, unique to the region. He was responsible for the coordination and oversight of the design team: the master planning, design, delivery, budget and schedule, from implementation and through construction, for the new urbanist town. Prior to arriving in the Cayman Islands, Urquhart was the Managing Partner, Surrey Landscapes and Construction (UK), a company specializing in historic restoration projects, agricultural and landscapes for public and private clients.
Urquhart is an award-winning landscape designer and was recognized with a National Hero’s Award (2014) for his commitment to the revitalization of native plant material in the Cayman Islands. < Back
