Film review: Beacon Farms, a dream built on rock

ree

By Norma Connolly

Beacon Farms, a documentary that is showing at Camana Bay Cinema this week, gives a fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpse into the triumphs and challenges of the North Side farm that is staffed by recovering addicts who transform not only the land, but their own lives.

The film, created by Candy Whicker and Little Films, takes you for a ride through the ups and downs of the workers, managers and owners of the farm, which was set up by father and son Granger and Scott Haugh in 2017.

Your point about protective coverings being a key innovation in sustainable farming is spot on. I've seen firsthand how they not only reduce water evaporation but also play a critical role in regulating soil temperature, which can significantly impact early-stage crop development. The real challenge for many commercial growers, however, is navigating the wide array of materials available to match specific crop needs and environmental goals. Having a resource that details the specifications of various industrial agricultural films for commercial use can make that selection process much more effective.
